Belonging to the Land: An Afternoon for Wild Honeybees and Living Watersheds

There is an old word for what happens when people come together around something larger than themselves: communitas— the deep, electric sense of belonging that arises in shared purpose. This September, Apis Arborea  is making space for exactly that, among the vines, oaks, and meadows of HomeFarm.

On Sunday, September 13th, from 3 to 6 pm, our hosts Cindy Daniel and Doug Lipton will welcome the community to HomeFarm for an afternoon gathering to introduce LocApiary in Dry Creek Valley. LocApiary is an innovative tool for community action — a way of empowering a whole watershed to restore wild honey bee habitat, to help local farms transition to regenerative pollination systems, and to reclaim a thriving, self-willed landscape together. It grows out of Apis Arborea’s seven-year study of wild honeybees that survive at nearly twice the rate of commercially managed bees.

This will be an immersive, experiential afternoon —  a living conversation that moves with you through the land, hands-on exhibitions, conversation, food, music, and the rare pleasure of belonging to something hopeful and alive. We can think of no better place than Dry Creek Valley, with its farms, its wild edges, and its strong sense of community, to show what’s possible.
