SUMMARY:Arboreal Apiculture Salon #50
DESCRIPTION:In this Salon\, we introduce the Wild Honeybee Atlas\, Apis Arborea’s global\, participatory platform for the discovery\, registration\, and long-term monitoring of wild and free-living honeybee colonies. The Atlas invites custodians around the world to record the wild nests they find and to follow them over time\, building an open\, community-based record of where these bees live and how they endure. \nJoin us for a conversation about what the Atlas makes possible: a shared map of wild honeybee life across landscapes and continents\, grounded in years of field observation and open to everyone who cares for these bees. We will explore how the platform works\, how to become a custodian\, and how this collective effort deepens our understanding of wild and free-living honeybees. \nUse this Zoom link to join \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Arboreal Apiculture Salon offers a unique opportunity for the global arboreal apiculture community to connect and engage in symbiotic learning\, share innovative ideas\, and support one another. Join a multidisciplinary community from around the world for discussions and exchanges that foster a deeper connection to arboreal apiculture and apiology. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCo-hosted by Cheyanna Bone\, Jonathan Powell (Natural Beekeeping Trust)\, and Michael Joshin Thiele (Apis Arborea). \nThe Salon is a free event\, serving communities around the globe. If you would like more info or have a suggestion for a topic/ speaker\, please send an email.

SUMMARY:Arboreal Apiculture Salon #51
DESCRIPTION:For our next gathering\, the Salon travels to the forests of Ukraine. \nWe welcome Maksym Bortnyk\, researcher of traditional tree beekeeping and founder of Садиба Бортника\, the Beekeeper’s Homestead\, a cultural and educational center for bortnytstvo\, the ancient Ukrainian practice of tending honeybees in the trees. Reaching back to the era of Kyivan Rus\, bortnytstvo keeps colonies in hand-hewn log hives raised high in the forest\, where the bees live close to the way they would in a wild hollow. \nMaksym founded the homestead in 2021\, carving log hives\, welcoming wandering swarms into them\, brewing honey mead in wooden barrels\, and drawing beeswax candles by hand. In 2022 he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine\, serving until his discharge for health reasons in 2024\, when he returned to his life’s work. He carries this tradition forward today alongside his rehabilitation\, tending a rare collection of old bortnik tools and forest knowledge. Use this Zoom link to join the live Salon. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Arboreal Apiculture Salon offers a unique opportunity for the global arboreal apiculture community to connect and engage in symbiotic learning\, share innovative ideas\, and support one another.
